ATOPCON in History
The Association of Town Planning Consultants of Nigeria (ATOPCON) was established in the early 1990’s. Its formation was informed by the need to bring all registered firms of Urban and Regional Planning in Nigeria under one Umbrella. The Association which started with pioneering member firms of less than twenty (20) now has over two hundred (200) forms as member.
ATOPCON has an umbilical cord relationship with the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP) and Town Planners Registration Council of Nigeria (TOPREC); the regulatory body for the profession within the period of its establishment. The Association has various policies and programmes that concern physical planning education, research and practice.
The Lagos State Branch is the first and pioneering branch of ATOPCON. The largest concentration of ATOPCON membership with over seventy five firms in the nation’s commercial capital make it to be the most vibrant among other branches.
